The Amgen Tour of California route has finally been announced. I’m planning to catch Stage 5 and possibly Stage 6.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been trying to bring a professional cycling tour to California for some time, and Amgen stepped up to the plate as a sponsor last year. It’s a one week stage race from SFO to LA, with participation from all the major pro teams. CSC is sending their best Americans including Julich and Zabriskie. Discovery will also be there though I don’t know who will be riding. Lance Armstrong is almost certain to appear, though not ride. He is a big fan of the Santa Barbara and Solvang areas.
It’s great to see international level pro cycling take hold in the US. I hope this race is well followed and attended. ESPN plans coverage nightly in HDTV, a first for pro cycling.
I’ll be spending the weekend in Santa Barbara doing some riding. If you happen to be there don’t miss Fastrack Bicycles, a very cool shop.
