Good analysis on the merger talks between Pixar and Disney (WSJ Front Page scoop today) over at The Big Picture.
What is especially curious about a Disney takeover of Pixar will be the potential role of Jobs in Disney. Disney CEO Robert Iger is 55, Jobs is 4 years his junior — might there be succession issues?
Let’s take craziness this one step further…. how about Steve Jobs running Disney distributing content exclusively over Apple hardware! Now we are getting vertical!
What if Disney made 2 sided DVD’s, on one side a regular DVD, on the other a high resolution version of the movie encoded with a better software codec like Divx or MPEG4.
(5 times the compression easily capable of coping with 5 times the pixels of HDTV).
The disk could be played on any DVD player, or flipped over and played on any computer at the higher resolution with nothing more than an extra codec, and duplicated on any existing plant.
Why would I buy Blue-Ray or HD DVD?
