Google Censorship Example

Google LogoRather than blather on about the fact Google is censoring search results in China, I thought the best thing was for people to see the results themselves.

Search for “tiananmen” on Google.cn image search

This is just an exercise in futility by the Chinese government. Google plays along to avoid making waves, but as the masters of the machina, they must know their efforts can be easily circumvented.

I could not help but laugh after seeing the difference. A picture (or many in this instance) does convey a whole lot more than words.

I am in Shenzhen, China on business. You can still go to http://images.google.com, search on “Tiananmem”, and get the same images seen in the US, tanks and all.

I hope I am not letting the cat out of the bag for Goggle.

Yes Brad, but you are also in a Western Hotel, watching a Western TV sat feed no one else outside your compound is allowed to get.

Interesting experiment though. Report back in from a Chinese Starbucks and see what you can reach. And get me a latte.
