NEFC Meeting at M.I.T. Tonight

I’ll be at M.I.T. tonight at the NEFC meeting. There are two speaking topics and a tour of MIT’s optical labs. It sounds like a productive way to spend a Tuesday night. If you are there, swing by and introduce yourself.

Innovation in Optics at MIT

  • This presentation will provide an overview of the research in CIPS including advanced photonic crystal and optoelectronic fibers, photonic integrated circuits, and ultrafast optics and networks. CIPS is also engaged in a host of outreach and educational activities with myriad opportunities for industrial involvement.

Future Directions for FTTx

  • This presentation will discuss the key challenges for next-generation optical broadband access systems, and potential architectures and enabling components to meet the challenges. Emphasis will be on long-reach passive optical networks (PONs) and WDM PONs. The findings to be presented are based on the work of the CIPS/industry Optical Broadband Working Group.
